It's Time to Get Vaccinated
On Oakland University campus students and faculty need flu shots, and may not be able to get to their personal health care provider. So the Graham health center made it possible to come to the Oakland Center on OU's main campus to give vaccinations. The event was free and they called it Flu-Palooza. The health center set up in front of the Universities credit union to get candidates to get shots. The process was fast and organized, so no confusion during this event at all.
When you walk to the table you present your insurance, and they had clip boards with important documentation. Once you finish the documents, the nurse gets a fresh needle, use alcohol to cleanse the skin, then use the shot. Most of the participants I asked for permission to take photos, and the shots happen quickly.
I spoke with Karen who facilitates the event in which they have created fun games, and interactive activities to keep getting people their flu shots. She told me they created a challenge to make people to come out such as being the bait to get people attention. This also made the event more advertised.
This made a great competition, and from being there it seemed like the word was getting out. Also, they made the website accessible Graham Health Center for others to get information to visit the center for their flu shots. The center is located on campus, and they accept walk-ins daily. All staff are nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and physician consultants. The center will be having three more events November 7th, November 27th, and December 6th. "The goal is to get everyone prepared, and healthy for the Flu season", said by Karen the facilitator.
