In the fall at Oakland University students are back taking courses, and new students are commuting to school, which makes the campus very busy. The parking is a frenzy, and students become frustrated with simply finding a spot. I asked medical pharmacy student Samantha Jaboro while walking from the parking lot on her take about the parking. She is in her third year at Oakland University, and hates the parking here at OU. She dreads the craze of simply fighting for a spot. She stated "I was running late to class, and even fought with a professor for a parking spot". She says it's a lot trying to commute daily, since her drive is 35 minutes from Macomb, and get here timely just to be on the search for a spot.

Standing on Oakland University's P1 lot on her way to class Thursday the 18th. Samantha Joboro started at OU 3 years ago, and continues to commute daily. |
I asked, what do you think will be a solution to the parking craze? She stated, "Building more parking structures, and to give the staff their own designated parking lot". Around campus a lot of parking spots are taken up by parking permit signs in which students can not park there, and creates an issue for students to find a place to park. Samantha feels the parking at Oakland University is a inconvenience, and makes students late. I asked, how can you find a parking spot the fastest? Jaboro stated, "I ask students leaving from the building, and follow them to their car". Though,a good reason why Samantha came to Oakland University is one the program she is studying is great here, but the parking is free, since the parking at other local schools cost.

Overall, the parking frenzy at Oakland University will always be dreaded by students, but it's a solution to every problem. Come early to find the desired spot you want by using the map offered on Oakland University website
OU Campus Map. Second, ask students when leaving the building to see where they are parked. Lastly, join the student council or ask dean for more solutions such as adding new parking structures to the campus.
