Social Media Critique: What needs to be changed

On Macomb Daily the website has a clean layout, but needs a few critiques to be reviewed. The site has accessible buttons to use,and I noticed it's user friendly, and the categories make it better to follow on the main page.

The main photo on the page is of Macomb county clerk with caption "GOP Macomb County Clerk candidate criticized for bankruptcy, voting record". The photo was something clean to display, but not eye catching, but they wanted to show who the clerk is, so the citizens can identify her. The change I would've made was a live in action photo of her in office or greeting citizens. Other pictures on the website which are feature stories showing people, sewage, and automotive. I like how each feature story has bold titles, but the bold titles are links that take you straight to the story. The other headlines do not have images only links to the story. Then, on the header and side bar their are advertisements in which I don't think looks appealing.

The changes that need to be made are placing more vivid and colorful photos to the website to give it more life. For example, showing fun family events, festivals, and concerts to showcase what's happening in the community is attention grabbing content. I think once the vibrancy is added to the website can have a better look.

On the Facebook page they have the cover photo showing children eating ice cream which I think looks fun for it being social media. The profile picture is the Macomb Daily logo which is fine so the page can be located easily. Lastly they follow other news sites that show the importance of up to date news so they can share quickly. Though, Macomb Daily has a great amount who follow their Facebook which is 34,858 to be exact.
