Social Media on the Rise
For 7 days I used Instagram to use as my platform as a journalist. The name "AliyahMedia" was to keep the brand from the website created for the class. I believe Instagram was a great choice as my social media platform because I wanted something more visual to display to my audience. The topic I generated was from my beat project on police brutality, but my focus is on bringing peace, and showing the awareness of the hate and violent crimes against the black and brown community. The images and quotes connected all display the point of view I want my audience to see. The profile picture I used shows an art portrait of an black girl with an afro and the american flag on her mouth to show the importance of the matter right when you see the profile.
I received many adds from news organizations and bloggers who discuss the same issues such as "ByBlacks",and "Love.Unity.Culture". The best interaction I received was a comment, and likes on photos from many followers. I had certain followers who steadily kept up with my daily post. I followed pages just to name a few such as "Black Lives Matter", "Ny Times", "Black Voices" in which they post through Huffington, and "National Urban League". The best part about using this platform is, this is a place to have a professional way in sharing your thoughts, and you get to hear from others as well.
On Instagram I learned how to create content that correlates to each other, and keep a common theme with my post. I had a set topic of the issues I wanted to discuss, but I wanted everything to be in sync. For instance, I posted the same color of photos or statements which were in shades of black, white, and yellow. I also posted a few vintage photos which tied together quite well. During the span of the 7 days I think posting at a certain time would've made the process more consistent.
Overall, after being a journalist for 7 days I noticed a lot that I picked up from other news organizations or journalist. Some examples such as the consistency of posting to know when you have more of an audience at certain times to view content. Also, using hashtags are important to gain views and likes on post. I may continue the page to share my thoughts, and to hear from others.
