First Generation Students Paving the Way

In class we watched a short film titled "Ivy League Trailblazers". I could personally connect with the film because in my family I am not a first generation college student, but I will be the first to receive my bachelor degree in my intermediate family. In the film I could relate to the majority what was said. The reason I feel the film gave the students a voice because it needed to be heard. The students were able to transparent, and this was an eye opener for others to understand their point of view. The moments that stood out to me were the different background that were being heard from every student. Most of them are motivated to work hard and provide for their families. For example, the young man who needed to work just so that his mother could get a flight to see him. While watching the film what surprised me was the conference specifically for first generation students which should be offered at all colleges and universities. I believe the conference was very beneficial. Now, the difference between the first generation students and other college students is the struggle to fit in with the others. Some of the other students may have cars and they don't, or better clothes, and they start to feel indifferent. Though, the first generation students have more of drive because their struggle motivates  and pushes them to succeed. Most of them are not privileged students so they understand what it takes to persevere.  The messages in the film stuck out to me, and the last message ended a good note. The young man simply stated "You are not alone" so many students especially first generation feel they are alone, and have no one to understand what they face daily. In most colleges and universities a lot of students have the same path, but for them to feel comfortable their should be more meetings and conferences as such to keep sanity on this journey.
